From June 5th to 11th, 2026, Medina Art Gallery presents Stefan Velund solo exhibit with curationship by Valeria Rufini Ferranti at Via Angelo Poliziano 4-6 gallery in Rome.
Opening event Friday, 5th June at 6pm
In Stefan Velund’s poetics, painting presents itself as a territory of thresholds between between shape and dissolution, surface and depth, light and shadow.
His artworks delineate an abstract and symbolic language, in which color – often vibrant, sometimes more restrained – becomes a tool for emotional and perceptive construction. Pictorial material, entrusted mainly to acrylic on canvas texture, does not limit itself to describing images but emerges as a living presence, almost tactile.
In artworks such as Axis, Sphere, Monolith, Let there be light ed Eternity…
…echoes of ancestral and archetypal dimension focus paintings on primary existence forms: center, balance, stability, persistence, essential. This serie presents an emotional geography of interior landscapes, a metaphysical and suspended place, never fully unfolded: regenerated with every gaze.
Between the figurative and the abstract, they all seem to be traversed by a light that not only illuminates, but reveals: it brings out presences, tensions, memories, and symbols that inhabit the surface as if they were traces of a no longer exists time.
Alongside this structural tension…
visible in the conscious use of surreal elements, a more lyrical but equally visionary component emerges, which can be seen in the series dedicated to the dancers: Aurielle, Aniara, Ivorielle… young spirits who flutter in the air, following the rhythm of a silent dance, almost more graceful than their own clothes, projecting themselves towards a metaphysical and evanescent dimension.
Then portraits arrive…
…in which evocative dimension intensifies: faces do not impose a unique reading but rather open spaces for interpretation: angels, demons, dreamed or even imagined women. Creatures from a far world that somehow, thanks to the painter himself, come into contact with our reality to reveal something to us. Through light, shadow, flashes of gold, sudden red flashes, recurring symbolic elements that characterise Stefan Velund’s poetics, animated by chromatic contrasts and resonances that materialize on the canvas real magnetic fields of visual and interior energy.

…don’t narrate, but evoke. They don’t define, but suggest. Each artworks appears as a fragment of a vision that asks to be inhabited and savored slowly, allowing intimate and individual resonances to emerge.
This solo exhibit presents a series of artworks that dialogue one to each other like the multiple chords of the same song, in which visitors are invited to stop, listen and lingering in this delicate and intense space, where painting does not simply show itself, but happens.
